Templo y exconvento de San AgustÃn
Each wall of this architectural gem holds centuries of history.
T The church and former convent of San Agustín is an architectural gem in the Plateresque style, with unique Moorish and Talavera-style details. Its construction dates back to 1609, when the Augustinians arrived in Celaya.
It was a convent until 1880, when it was inaugurated as a municipal jail, a function it served until 1961. During the Battles of Celaya, it served as Álvaro Obregón’s barracks.
It currently houses the headquarters of the Celaya Municipal Institute of Art and Culture.
